ALFRED WORTHINGTON, 1835-1925, ARTIST AND PHOTOGRAPHER
Alfred Worthington was born in Kent in 1835 and came to Aberystwyth on the advice of his doctor in about 1870. He died at the age of 89 in 1925. He worked as a photographer for several years, but soon established himself as an artist, and produced many hundreds of oil paintings for both the local and the tourist market. He also painted pictures on slate for fireplaces and other items that were enameled at one or more of the Slate Enameling works in Aberystwyth.
I really enjoyed seeing the display of Worthington’s work at the idiosyncratic Ceredigion Museum in Aberystwyth. I would strongly advise a visit to anyone and everyone.
I’ll put a link here to an essay by Peter Lord about Alfred Worthington.
