I’m going through some old scrapbooks, remember those? I used to keep them before blogging as a way of keeping interesting articles and photographs that might become useful in my work,as visual sources. Anyway, I came across a beautiful article of photographs of British piers by the documentary photographer Frank Bauer. When I looked him up it appears that he went on to do many of the intimate and famous portraits of Robbie Williams. These look at Williams on tour. The isolation of a lone performer in vast crowds.the portrait that could be an angry dhout or an unrestrained yawn. Expressing the emotions of a human being in a very strange environment/situation. I particularly like his series of billboards. These show empty spaces in otherwise busy scenes.
