Siop y Gornel is a Bakers in the centre of Bala, it’s just off the High Street. It is run by a young couple and they bake everything from scratch…really good seeded loaf! highly recommended, and the pasties smelled good too. You can have a cup of coffee too, and the artwork on the walls is by local artist, Glyn Baines.
Anyway, opposite is this old building being done up at the moment…and I just really liked the letterbox. We also saw a bird on the head of this statue that i liked. The man is the Rev Thomas Charles, an important figure in the Methodist Revival. In 1800 he sold a copy of the Bible to Mari Jones who walked barefoot to Bala from Llanfihangel y Pennant over 25 miles away.
On the same street also look out for the excellent ironmongers and round the corner behind Somerfield you’ll find Canolfan y Plase, which shows changing exhibitions of art or heritage.dscn2122dscn2125
