Solar eclipse of August 11, 1999

Solar eclipse of August 11, 1999.

I was just thinking about the day we saw the eclipse in a warm sunny Littlehampton. It wasn’t total, but for me it was as near as. There was much anticipation and as the moment came there was a really strange eeriness as the day went calm and the birds started to roost mid morning. At around 11 o’clock everything was calm and dark, we looked at the eclipse by projecting through a pinhhole onto a piece of paper. I suddenly felt incredibly small and insignificant as the moon passed infront of the sun casting us all into shadow. How amazing that people in Turkey, Iran and the Bay of Bengal should witness the same phenomena over the next few hours. The birds were all silent and a stillness took over. It was unsettling to have the evening mid morning.
